Travel Technology

This course provides strategic coverage of the technologies that power the modern business of travel and is a meaningful insight of the day to day running of this vast industry.

Topics range from the Internet to the Web and Web 2.0; to business-grade telephony and Voice over IP (VoIP); to travel-specific technology frameworks used for distribution, aggregation, and sales. The course also covers the technologies used for logistics, operations, marketing, revenue accounting, and more... painting a holistic "big picture" view of the global travel technology landscape.

Students can learn about the skills required to manage a travel e-commerce website, as they work through practical case studies of setting up travel offices and call centers. They will learn about traditional GDS-based travel distribution frameworks, emerging competitors like Global New Entrants (GNEs), and newer travel technology models including Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs).

With plentiful graphics and animations, interactive elements, hands-on work, and colorful text... the course is designed to keep students engaged and to show what is needed to succeed in the modern travel business. At the end of this important course, students will see the travel industry in a new way.

The Travel Technology Essentials course has been approved by the Travel Institute as a part of their program for travel professionals. Students who complete this course qualify to earn 10 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the Travel Institute.
